Peravadana (පෙරවදන)
Peravadana was a television program dedicated to Sinhala literature that aired 5 days a week from 2:30 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. in 2008. Hosted by Tharaka Wasalamudaliarachchi, the program quickly gained popularity among both literary enthusiasts and general viewers.
At the time, the Program Director of Swarnavahini TV, Hema Nalin Karunarathne, was responsible for the original concept of the program. The program was co-produced by Tharaka Wasalamudaliarachchi and Aruna Bandara Waasundara.
Through discussions centered on books, writers, and literary culture, Peravadana brought Sinhala literature to a wider television audience.
The program also holds a notable place in Sri Lankan media history. At a time when literary content was rarely featured on mainstream television, Peravadana emerged as one of the early programs to focus specifically on literature and books. Its success helped pave the way for similar literary and book-focused television programs that appeared in the years that followed. A live broadcast of Peravadana was conducted at the Colombo International Book Fair Awards ceremony in 2008, held at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH). The program was presented by Tharaka Wasalamudaliarachchi, bringing the literary event to a wider television audience and highlighting the significance of the annual celebration of Sri Lankan literature.
